G. Joseph Minetti papers, 1922-1993.

The G. Joseph Minetti collection contains evidence from Minetti's entire career. but most significantly the bulk of the collection documents his 22 years with the Civil Aeronautics Board. Included in this series are: case files, board minutes, memos, correspondence, procedural rules, printed materials, and files on individual members and bureaus. Papers document hearings on the causes of airplane crashes and negotiated aviation agreements with other nations. Each case is separately documented and filed in chronological order. Minetti continued as an aviation attorney in private practice with Dickstein, Shapiro, and Morin. There is an extensive clippings file from the late 1950s through the 1970s. A hand-written plan for a legislative history of the Civil Aviation act of 1938 is included. Evidence of Minetti's early career include scrapbooks, 1947-1950, with clippings and photographs, topical files in alphabetical order. There are numerous books, some once belonging to Senator Joseph McCarthy. Ephemera include: service medals, yearbooks, awards and certificates, an audio cassette on his 1978 ALTA award, and some documents on fiche.

On November 3, 1958 the six airlines filed an agreement with the Civil Aeronautics Board which provided for certain mutual assistance in the event of a strike against one of them. The carriers still operating would make monthly payments of the increased revenues (less added direct expense) to the carrier which was shut down. G. Joseph Minetti was born in 1907 and was a New York attorney. From 1947-1953, he served as deputy commissioner of the Department of Marine and Aviation for the City of New York. From 1955-1956 he served on the Federal Maritime Board in Washington, D.C. He was appointed to the Civil Aeronautics Board in 1956 where he served until 1978 when he returned to private practice with Dickstein, Shapiro, and Morin. He died in 1993.
